Dear Andrea,
Up to $1 million is on the line through our 2017 Year-End Matching Gift Challenge. That’s a lot of money, and we’re going to need every penny of it as we embark on our most ambitious work yet in 2018.
Over 9 billion farm animals are raised and killed for food in the United States each year, with chickens representing 88% of those animals. That’s almost 8 billion chickens who are bred to suffer, live in filth, and die horrible deaths almost too cruel to believe. Millions of chickens are still fully conscious when they have their throats slit. Those who manage to miss the blade are boiled to death in scalding tanks.
The Humane League’s 88% Campaign is changing that, and with each successive campaign victory, we’re gearing up to embark on our most ambitious campaign yet: pressuring McDonald’s to implement a meaningful animal welfare policy.
THEY NEED YOU

Billions of chickens live in misery, and we’re determined to change that.

McDonald’s is by far the biggest purchaser of chicken meat, buying an estimated 450 million chickens annually. Recently, they issued a welfare policy for chickens that has little substance. We’ve let them know this won’t stand, and we’re preparing to lead the fight to ensure McDonald’s implements meaningful welfare standards.
They don’t want to change. This is going to be a lengthy battle, and the stakes are high. Convincing a corporate giant like McDonald’s to adopt progressive standards will change the industry, and create a domino effect benefiting billions of lives.
When we come together, they cannot ignore us. The dollars raised now will be vital in funding this and many other important initiatives in 2018, and we only have until December 31 to reach our $1 million goal. I hope we can count on your support.
For the animals,
| David Coman-Hidy President |
