My rescue (from Benny the cat) | North Shore Animal League America

North Shore Animal League America
Take a journey with Benny
Hello, Andrea, My name's Benny! I heard my dog friend Zara shared her tale with you and I was wondering if I could share mine, too?

Like Zara, my story doesn't begin the happiest. But the moment I entered North Shore Animal League America's doors… my whole life changed.

This is why it's important to me to tell you where I came from – a rescue kitty in need of serious love and care – so you could see how crucial friends like you are in a pet's life.
MY STORY:
RESCUE:
I was only six weeks old when North Shore Animal League America took me in – just a tiny malnourished kitten with severe burns all over my body.
NURTURE:
The doctors gave me a full medical examination. I was so thankful to get such supportive care, especially antibiotics and topical therapy for my painful burns.
FOSTER CARE:
While I waited for my injuries to heal, I was placed in foster care and became the playful kitty I was always meant to be – soon I was cleared for adoption!
ADOPTION:
My future family passed their important screening process and soon we were introduced. They adopted me into their loving home and we're a happy family still today!
I hope you see from my journey what a difference North Shore Animal League America's no-kill mission has made for me and my future. They do this kind of incredible work for hundreds of pets like me every single day… defenseless animals who might otherwise be destroyed.

My story is different, just like each rescue pet's story is different. But what we all have in common is being given the chance we needed at a new, quality life – thanks to the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization.

It truly is an amazing place!

Through Zara's eyes: My journey | North Shore Animal League America

North Shore Animal League America
Take a journey with Zara
Hi Andrea, I'm Zara. My life didn't start out so great, to say the least...

But thanks to North Shore Animal League America and their no-kill mission, I was rescued, nurtured, and eventually adopted by a wonderful family.

If you don't mind, I'd love to share my journey with you today – so you can see what a difference a little (ok, a LOT) of TLC and human kindness can make in one pet's life!
MY STORY:
RESCUE:
I was found in a cage covered in filth. After being rescued, I was brought to North Shore Animal League America.
NURTURE:
The veterinarians removed 4 inches of overgrown nails and 9 lbs of matted hair, some of which was cutting off circulation on my paw.
RECOVERY:
Antibiotics, ointment, a protective bandage, and plenty of rest cleared up my painful infection and saved my front paw. Thank goodness.
TRAINING:
My new friends slowly helped me walk again and made sure I didn't have any problems around people, food, or other animals.
FOSTER CARE:
I finally learned to trust again – and, for the first time, knew what it felt like to be safe and loved.
ADOPTION:
After my new owners were put through a screening process, I was welcomed into their loving family. I was over the moon!
Of course, every animal has their own unique story. Mine is just one example of the work North Shore Animal League America provides for hundreds of pets every day – giving each of us as many chances it takes for a good quality life!

But hopefully, my journey still gives you a pretty good idea of the lifesaving care they provide to pets like me who might otherwise be killed – ensuring we recover from our difficult pasts and move on to happy, new lives.

Thank you for reading my story!

Take action to spare animals from painful chemical tests! | CAARE

Citizens for Alternatives to Animal Research
Andrea --
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has posted its 2018-2022 EPA Strategic Plan for public review, which details the budget and focus of its efforts for the next four years. The EPA is now accepting comments from the public regarding the Strategic Plan, but the deadline is fast approaching
Please submit your comments today requesting the EPA to include adequate funding in the budget to support modern and humane non-animal tests to assess the safety of chemicals in the environment. Comments are being accepted until midnight October 31, 2017.
Modern methods like robotics and high-throughput assays using human cells are vastly superior, cheaper and of course infinitely more humane than cruel animal tests.
Chemical tests typically force-feed helpless animals with caustic substances like pesticides and household cleaners, sometimes over months or years, causing intense suffering.

Follow this link to submit your comments. A sample comment can be cut and pasted from below, or you can write your own. Just be sure to keep all comments polite and acknowledge the EPA’s current efforts to reducing animal tests.
The EPA has already made a commitment to reducing animal tests and joined with several other U.S. agencies to reduce and replace animal toxicity tests with the latest technology. That commitment must be backed by the funding to replace animal tests with updated and superior technology.

Sample Comment
Thank you for your efforts to reduce and replace chemical tests on animals with superior, human-relevant methods. Adequate funding needs to be appropriated in the proposed budget to make this happen. As a compassionate citizen, I support an end to the use of animal toxicity tests and request to see this prioritized in the EPA’s 2018-2022 Strategic Plan.
Please submit your comments right away. The deadline is midnight of October 31, 2017.

It's almost time for Chimpoween! | Save the Chimps

Dear Friend,
The chimps are celebrating Chimpoween!
Join in the fun and sponsor a Chimpoween Party for one chimpanzee family. What better way to celebrate than with islands decorated with pumpkins, decorations, and lots of tasty treats that enrich the lives of chimpanzees by promoting physical activity, mental stimulation, and play.
These activities and fun improve the overall well-being of residents. Painting and foraging—and yes, even parties—are just a few of their regular enrichment activities. Chimpoween is one of six parties held each year for resident families at the Sanctuary and they happen because of generous gifts from supporters like YOU.
Thank you for caring about wonderful chimps like Jude and all the families at Save the Chimps!
